Engineering

What actually makes software scalable?

First say what is expected to grow. Users, data, features, and teams create different constraints.

Scale needs a noun

More users, requests, data, features, developers, customers, or markets create different engineering problems. “Will it scale?” is hard to answer until the expected growth is clear.

Describe the likely load

Estimate current usage and plausible demand, note response-time needs, identify critical workflows, and define what failure would cost. Include growth in product scope and team size, not only traffic.

Choose engineering work from the constraint

Database design, caching, queues, APIs, observability, deployment, and failure handling solve different problems. Add complexity when measurements or credible requirements call for it.

Name the missing evidence

This article has no traffic profile, load test, availability target, or growth forecast. Those inputs are needed before recommending a particular architecture.
